I got a size 10/12 for my eight year old.She is taller than her age,but not overweight.This coat fits her just perfect,on her it's snug fit.Not much room to put heavy sweater under,but the jacket itself is so warm,that we don't need room for layers.I would say it is a heavy weight ,winter jacket.Looks great on her,overall we love it.Some months later,the zipper broke,now useless unless I take it to a professional to put new zipper in...Was not worn accessively,no reason for this.I am extremely dissapointed in U.S.A Polo ?
