Description
Bubble Wrap is an amazing family music album full of memorable hooks by popular YouTube artist, Eric Herman, and his full band, The Thunder Puppies. Speaking deeply to the world of a kid, Bubble Wrap includes comedic takes on obsessive fun (Bubble Wrap, Phone), food (You Are What You Eat), and bath taking (Take a Bath), as well as more serious looks at subjects like stage fright (Everybody's Watching), role models (That Guy), and even the death of a parent (Okay), inspired by the loss of Eric's wife and co-producer, Roseann, in 2013. The album also includes a unique take on the counting song with Sunflower Seeds, and a blues song for school kids in Where's Saturday? Bubble Wrap features guest cameos by Keith and Ezra of Trout Fishing in America, Mister G, Roger Day, Kenn Nesbitt and more. Videos for the title track, You Are What You Eat and Take a Bath will be debuting on YouTube coinciding with the album release. Eric Herman has a unique voice in the Kids/Family genre, both as a singer and songwriter, and this album may be his best yet, with songs that are immediately memorable and accessible and yet truly original. There are influences apparent in some songs, including Elvis Costello, Pearl Jam, The Beatles and Cake, but there is always a distinct feel and approach to the songs. Not content to merely reproduce more versions of his hits, these songs are vibrant and new and go to different places than his previous work. According to Herman, the 12 songs on Bubble Wrap were inspired directly from jams during band rehearsals, which Herman then took and molded into full songs, not unlike a mad scientist. In the case of the epic Everybody's Watching, nearly the whole song, with its many chord and dynamic changes, came together almost directly from the initial improvisation. It's that kind of inspiration that gives this album its depth and edge, as its raw performances and powerful earworm hooks connect with audiences of all ages.

Bubble-Wrap sure brought out the kid in me! Herman and his band are all out to remind one and all about the everyday things and incidents that one would have forgotten in the process of growing up. The title track brings out so many memories of that very tempting and addictive habit almost all of us were slave to at some time or the other while growing up :-). Hahaha…hilarious lyrics! “You Are What You Eat” is a rather delicious song, the lyrics are full of reference to food-stuff and left me with a rumbling stomach! I loved the melody of “Where’s Saturday” and kids are always going to identify with this one. But so will adults, Monday mornings are always a drag :-). That all important device is so well and imaginatively written about in “Phone”. We do experience every once in a while being relegated to second place in people’s lives when it’s taken over by the universally addictive phone….laughed out loud in the chorus part every time :-). “Everybody’s Watching” has a great guitar play in the opening and has an infectious melody. The lyrics about feeling self-conscious is so identifiable…really what were the parents thinking?! :-) :-). I loved the guitar accompaniment in “Take a Bath”, wildly imaginative lyrics. Loved it! “Okay” is the most sober of all the songs here, it has lovely sad-sweet lyrics and is a classic thank you song for all those times we have needed the protection and love of our parents. This album was so much fun to listen to, genuinely humorous lyrics and so well and heartily sung by Herman. They’ve sure had a lot of fun composing, recording and producing this album and it shows :-) :-) :-).
